Creating Daily Routines

For March, I’m trying to be more intentional. Intentional with my friendships, intentional with eating better, intentional with my body and habits. Part of this is being intentional with my day; being productive, knocking out easy every day tasks, and feeling more positive about our house and (especially) a clean kitchen.

Lately I’ve been quite a distracted and lazy person. Shocked? Don’t be. Cheshire calls me a “potato” for a reason. If I’m not working, I’ll sleep in as late as possible, make brunch, and swan dive into the couch to watch Netflix. None of these things are bad. As long as they’re not happening every day. But lately, I’ve been doing this all the time. Since I’m still working only part time in retail, this feeds into my laziness. I end up sleeping late, eating terrible scrounged-up-breakfasts, and not putting on pants until I absolutely have to. Do I like living like this? No. No I don’t. I feel like I’m wasting the day away, not getting done the things I want to do, and overall feeling super unorganized.

So, I decided to help myself out be creating a daily routine; something I could have written down and posted somewhere where I can see it. I have certain goals for my morning, and laying them out is an easy way to remind myself to get them done. Here’s an example: I love a made bed. It makes the whole room look better, and crawling into crisp sheets at night is so soothing. But do I remember to make my bed? Of course not, have you met me?? So “making the bed” was step one in my daily routine. I’ve stuck to my routine for almost two weeks now, and I already feel crazy better about myself, and way more motivated. I’ve put on pants before 9 am, which in and of itself is amazing.

A glance at my mornings…

  • Awake by 8:00 am
  • Make bed
  • Brush teeth
  • Morning skincare routine
  • Take vitamins
  • Yoga
  • Shower and/or Get dressed
  • Breakfast / Smoothie
  • Freedom Mastery & Meditation
  • Empty and load the dishwasher

A glance at my nights…

  • Run the dishwasher
  • Prep Allan’s lunch
  • Take off makeup
  • Brush teeth
  • Take vitamins
  • Night Skincare routine
  • Take meds
  • Freedom Mastery & Reflection
  • Read 1 chapter
  • Asleep by 11:00 pm

Even though it’s only been two weeks, I feel awesome about this new routine. But as much as I love it, there are also mornings when I want to just say “screw it” and sleep in. Or evenings when I’m tired, and have zero self care to take off my makeup before bed. Every day I have to forgive myself when I mess up or skip a step, and every day congratulate myself on trying harder. And it’s paying off! I’ve noticed a big difference in my attitude and personal drive, and I’ve also noticed a huge improvement in my skin (who knew having a morning and night skincare routine could make my skin softer and generally feel better about myself?)

Do you have a daily routine? What helps you to stay motivated and mentally on track? I’d really love to know! Also, what is your skincare routine? I’m still trying out a couple different products to see what my skin likes best, but so far I’ve tried Arbonne and a hodge-podge of products in my beauty bag. Are there any products you aboslutely adore that you think I should try? Let me know!
