Winter at Cedar

Today marks the first day of winter, although winter has already hit, melted, hit, melted, and hit again up in Michigan. As I write this, the snow is gracefully falling outside my window, and hopefully will pile up again in time for Christmas.

I thought in light of the winter season, and in light of the beauty of the great lakes, I should share with you what I get to experience every day.

This is the view I get to experience outside my office window. I caught this picture about a week ago, right after arriving at the office. That, my lovely dears, is Lake Huron, and fog rolling off the isthmus, a tiny stretch of land connecting camp to White Fish Point. One thing I love about Cedar Campus is the shoreline. We have such an iconic shoreline, silhouetted with beautiful firs, pines, and cedars. I love it here, especially when the water and the clouds combine to become one single entity.

Since the temperatures have begun to dip (and I do mean DIP) to a -16 degrees, the lake is freezing over as well, creating a beautiful combination of waving water and frozen tundra.

This little swan seems to be having no trouble, even though when I took this picture it was -11 with windchill. My hands were numb, but it was worth it.

LOOK AT THAT LIGHT!!! You guys, I love the clouds here. I don’t know how many photos I have of this island because it’s so picturesque no matter what the weather is. I love how in the picture above, you can see the sections of the lake that have frozen, but are still floating along with the general pull of the rest of the water. And that yellow light is killing me. The colors in the winter here are pink and blue and white. I love it so much.

Well that’s all for today, I just wanted to share some of the scenery with you guys in time for the first day of winter.
